Lyndy Wilson

Presented by Art By he River Gallery, Lyndy Wilson is a contemporary New Zealand painter of Tainui descent, based in Ngāruawāhia beside the Waikato River. The river, surrounding landscape and her heritage are recurring influences across an unusually diverse practice encompassing abstract figurative works, landscapes and vibrant botanical paintings. Lyndy builds her paintings intuitively through layers of thick and thin paint, using brushes, palette knives, rags and even her fingers to create expressive surfaces. Her figurative works explore identity and the human condition, while landscape and florals draw on place, memory and changing light. Lyndy was a finalist in the 2025 National Contemporary Art Award.
