Presented by Art By The River, Annie McIver is a New Zealand ceramic artist whose hand-built figurative sculptures explore memory, identity and the space between our inner and outer selves. Working intuitively with coil and slab techniques, she creates enigmatic figures accompanied by animals, symbolic objects and unexpected gestures. Childhood memories, dreams and the collective unconscious are recurring influences, giving her work a distinctive sense of narrative and mystery. Annie holds a Master of Design from Unitec, and her work has been frequently selected as a finalist in the Portage Ceramic Awards, New Zealand’s leading contemporary ceramics award.
