Liz Sofield works mainly with paper and thread. By her use of geometric patterning and delicate stitching, evoking a sense of calmness. Born in Auckland, Liz has recently returned to New Zealand after living in Brisbane for twenty years. Trained in interior and textile design, Liz established her artistic practice whilst living in a remote, mining town in Western Australia, for a short period in 2014 and started using paper and thread as art materials were not readily available. Over the last few years Liz has been creating earth pigments from Brisbane and Whangarei coastal rocks, also natural dyed cotton thread, which she incorporates into her textile paper art. Liz’s most recent commission is now hanging in the refurbished Waldorf Astoria in New York. She runs online workshops through Artisan Queensland and is a member of the international Paper Artist Collective and IAPMA.
