Josh is a self-taught, versatile artist from Whangārei, Northland, whose work blends human expression with cultural narratives. Drawing from his Māori heritage and other indigenous cultures, he explores storytelling using multimedia techniques, creating a visual marriage of black-and-white contrasts and bold colours with oils, acrylics, charcoal, airbrushing, and sculpture. His focus is on merging realism, abstract, and contemporary styles into a unified body of work, driven by a passion for cultural expression. In March 2024, Josh quit his job to pursue his passion as a full-time artist, making Art in the Park 2025 his first large exhibition. Every year Art in the Park sponsors one young artist from The King’s Trust & Art in the Park; Art & Enterprise Programme to exhibit at the show. This year’s awarded artist is Josh - through his captivating portraits in mixed media, a strong artistic voice shone through as a talent that deserved to be championed. Josh is exhibiting a full exhibit of work as part of the main exhibition in the show, as well as contributing one statement piece to the MAS Emerging Artists Gallery.
