Caleb Kuita is a Māori artist specialising in whakairo (traditional Māori wood carving). Born and raised in Hawke’s Bay, with his whakapapa to Whangārā and Tikitiki on the East Coast. His practice is driven by a deep appreciation for Māori art forms and a desire to master them over time. Inspired by artists such as Steve Solomon, Todd Couper, and Mr G, Caleb values clean, refined craftsmanship with a contemporary sensibility. After serving 10 years in the Royal New Zealand Navy, he is now pursuing his long-held aspiration to study whakairo at Te Puia, NZMACI.
