Iona Matheson

I love making sculptures that interweave art, science, mythology and history. I love working with different media primarily ceramics, but often with paper and bronze materials with different values side by side. I see my birds as Guardia of places overseeing the landscape. I’m inspired by stunning Coromandel environments and often work with avian themes and symbiotic relationships in nature. Texture and colour are driving forces with my sculpture and a love of the natural world.
