Saskia Baetens

Saskia was born in Belgium, and grew up in New Zealand, immersed in the contemporary art scene. She graduated from the Elam School of Fine Arts at Auckland University in 1997. She has exhibited at Sculpture on Shore multiple times over the last two decades and she is represented at Brick Bay Sculpture Trail. The forms are hybrid figures, often part-human, part-rabbit, that explore transformation, instinct, and myth. Saskia has been sculpting with wax for more than 30 years and is known as one of New Zealand’s few accomplished bronze sculptors. Her work has largely been purchased by private collectors and is held within private collections around New Zealand.
