Peter is best known as a still life artist but also has a strong passion for portrait painting and narrative based work, the latter being favoured as a means to express his thoughts on various issues personal to him, using myth and suggested storyline as a means to convey a message. His initial influence was from the Dutch Vanitas painters of the 16th/17th century and their use of symbolism to convey messages concerning human mortality and the transient nature of life, this symbolism becoming in many cases a subtle part of his own work due to his own desire to convey a message relating to our transient nature.
