The 2014 Event
Once again the 2-day art festival attracted art enthusiasts of all sorts–from determined collectors to the mildly curious.
The mix of panel displays and performance art delighted large numbers of locals and visitors.–the Greymouth Star headline saying that people ‘flocked’ to the event.
The visual artists –once again across a wide range of media–made the most of the opportunities our festival provides—to showcase their work–to sell directly to the public,–to network with other artists and last but not least, enjoy themselves.
The performing artists provided entertainment in the street outside the display halls demonstrating their musical talents.
Of particular note was the Christchurch Highland Pipe Band which performed regular sets on both days and drew the crowds with their stirring music and spectacular marching. The band is a regular supporter of Art in the Park.
The Saturday’s weather was sunny and attracted larger crowds, the car park attendants being kept very busy. Sunday had occasional showers which saw the visitors spending more time in the two display halls –Hats off to the performing artists who soldiered on during the Sunday showers–real troupers!
The organising committee continues to be amazed at the level of support from our communities and spopnsors without which the event could not be held.
